Right to Information
The Right to Information Act, 2005 gives every citizen the right to request information from a public authority. This page explains how to file a request with the Department of Consumer Affairs.
About the Act
Under the RTI Act, 2005, any citizen of India may request information held by, or under the control of, this Department. Requests must be responded to within 30 days, or 48 hours where the information concerns the life or liberty of a person.
How to file a request
Requests may be submitted in writing or electronically to the Central Public Information Officer named below, and must be accompanied by the prescribed fee of ₹10. Applicants below the poverty line are exempt from this fee on production of the relevant certificate.
Requests can also be filed through the Government of India's RTI Online portal at rtionline.gov.in.

Appellate Authority
An applicant not satisfied with a response, or who receives no response within the statutory period, may appeal to the First Appellate Authority, Department of Consumer Affairs, within 30 days of the response or the expiry of that period.
